Installer broadcasting color flake into an epoxy base coat

Flake Epoxy
Flooring

Flake epoxy flooring is our most popular floor: a thick epoxy base, a full broadcast of vinyl color flakes and a clear UV-stable topcoat. It hides dust and tire marks, adds grip and holds up to Florida garages.

One Of A Kind Epoxy Design And Painting installs flake systems in garages, lanais, shops and commercial spaces across Hillsborough, Manatee and Sarasota counties. Free on-site estimates with flake samples. Call 941-281-8866.

What Is a Flake Floor

The Most Forgiving Floor You Can Own

A flake floor is built in layers. After diamond grinding and crack repair, we roll a thick pigmented epoxy base coat and broadcast vinyl flakes into it while it's wet. In a full broadcast, flakes cover the surface completely. Once the base cures, the excess is scraped and vacuumed, and a clear topcoat locks it all in.

The result is a speckled, textured surface that hides dust, drips and tire marks far better than a solid color, and gives more grip than a smooth floor. On most garages we finish with a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat so the color doesn't yellow where the sun hits. Comparing looks? See flake, metallic, solid and quartz compared.

Choosing a Flake Floor

Full vs. partial broadcast

For most Florida garages we recommend a full broadcast. It builds more thickness, hides more and gives more grip when the floor is wet.

Flake size and color

Flakes come in different sizes and hundreds of blends. Larger flakes read as bold and busy; smaller flakes look finer and more uniform up close. Lighter blends brighten a garage and show less dust; darker blends hide oil drips. We bring samples to your estimate so you can see them in your own light.

Texture and slip resistance

Flake floors have natural texture from the chips. For extra grip at entries, pool steps or ramps, we can add anti-slip aggregate to the topcoat. More in slip-resistant coatings.

Care

Sweep or blow off grit, rinse with water, and use a neutral cleaner for spills. Avoid harsh acids and citrus degreasers that can dull the topcoat. Put pads under jack stands and heavy equipment.

Cost

Typical 2026 ranges for a hybrid epoxy and polyaspartic flake system run about $6–$8 per square foot in the Sarasota market and about $5–$7 in Tampa, depending on size, repairs and topcoat. See epoxy flooring cost for full breakdowns.
